The Nursery grows up too!

After you have discovered that you are pregnant and you have been to your doctor and taken all the necessary steps to ensure a healthy pregnancy, the fun part begins; decorating the nursery!

There is a lot of really cute baby stuff out there.  Ethan Allen has gorgeous cribs and bedding that sells in the thousands of dollars.  Target has beautiful more budget friendly baby decor.  Pottery Barn nestles safely in between the two.  You can definitely go a little crazy decorating for baby... the ruffly tutus and the truck bedding.  Pinks and Blues, toile and stripes.  You can easily be tempted to go all out.

Don't.  Baby grows up quickly.... really quickly.  Take it from me, your little princess might come home one day and declare she wants get rid of all of her "girly" stuff.  Let her.  Here's how you can decorate to appease your wishes and still let them grow up.

Stick to basics.  Paint your nursery a warm sunny yellow or a soothing green.  These are gender neutral colors.  Buy your baby bedding inexpensively at Target; indulge your desires here for ballerinas or cowboys.  Use accessories to define the room; pink baskets with pink gingham ribbons; red bookshelves with firetrucks stenciled on them.  Want to get really crazy?  Paint one whole wall in the room with chalkboard paint.  Remember, people love to buy babies gifts - pink teddy bears or dinosaur pillows - so you will receive a lot of the fun stuff to decorate with.

The bottom line is you don't want to spend a lot of money on a room that will morph as your child quickly grows.  Have fun but do it cost efficiently.
